Poetry:
What I wrote
MUSE
Down my back, down my chest, into the clear
Pool below me.
Her hands scrub and lather, caress
And clean. She sings
Songs of soothing and serenity, accompanied by splashes
And soap, and rinses
Shampoo from my hair, pouring from her cup
Covered with sweet strawberries.
Older, wiser, with more
Love under my belt, I reach through the years, the sadness, the cuts
In my heart, and touch her hands, her fingers,
The water surrounding me.
***
The rain
Falls less often now. The rivers weep
Dirt and dead fish, gagged by ropes
Of trash. What have we done?
Water, beautiful mother, we could not live
Without you. After all the ways we’ve
Corrupted you, disrespected you, depleted your
Best parts and left you
Empty, hurting, you still bring
Life and joy to us. Even after
All this dirt and destruction.
Better days are ahead for you, Mother. Your children, armed
With nets and knowledge, will work to scrub
You clean.

SKI RACE
As my boots crunch into the snow, I feel the tension coursing through my body,
Suspense creeps to the tip of every toe,
Sending shivers as I brace myself ready. The crowd erupts in cheers, but I hear nothing,
As I stand at the starting point, eyes focused,
Muscles tensed, breath shallow, anticipating,
Waiting for the signal to flash red…
Bang!
I launch forth like a slingshot,Racing down slopes in a frenzied hurry,
Joints grinding, muscles burning hot,
The cold wind licking my cheeks ruddy…
I zip past the finish line,
First place, but that weighs least on my mind,
For all that matters in time,
Is that I have left my fears and doubts behind.

Pandemic
White masks flood the city,
Clouding every face,
Every emotion,
Casting darkness on the people.
This pure white fabric,
Once hailed as our saviors,
Now stifle us,
Rendering us unable to breathe,
Unable to see faces,
Emotionless moons shrouded by clouds,
Floating in the midst of darkness,
Shedding silent tears of loneliness.
But even through the darkest cloud,
Eyes may seek a silver lining,
A ray of hope,
That this, too, shall one day pass.

The Blue Sky
The blue sky,
Clear as an aquamarine.
Dancing with the clouds,
In perfect harmony.
The navy sea,
Shining like a sapphire.
Reflecting the sun,
Like a shining mirror.
The green land,
Deep as an emerald,
Sustaining life,
In Mother Earth’s warm embrace.
How blessed I am,
To live in such a beautiful world.
Full of promises,
And possibilities.
I wish to see,
This world around me,
Stay beautiful,
As it always has been.
Because,
It’s fading away,
Quicker than we would like to admit,
Until there would be none left.
For you,
For me,
For our future.
